Character History:
z Wiki for Marvel Thor

Personality:
Before his exile to Earth, Thor was an impatient, thoughtless, carefree young Asgardian, strong and arrogant and always seeking out new enemies and exciting adventures. All he wanted was to be the greatest hero, the bravest warrior, and the most beloved prince, like his father before him, and he tended to ignore the parts of ruling that didn’t involve flying at the head of the army. Between adventures, he simply didn’t have the attention span for wisdom and peace. He acted before he thought, and often didn’t even think afterwards, governed by instinct and emotion rather than consideration. In all things, he exuded confidence and power, even on the rare occasions he did not feel entirely confident. Laufey called him a boy, and a boy he most certainly was.

There were glimmers of hope, however, even then. His arrogance was tempered by charity and respect towards others-- unless they were enemies, of course. He was fiercely devoted to his family, even though he rarely could see how at times he hurt Loki with his careless words and easy assumption of authority, and he had the charisma of a leader, though more often than not he used it in pursuit of his own desires more than his friends’. Optimism and hope were the first things he turned to, even if they were magnified into overconfidence and naivete most of the time, and he was always open, honest, and without guile. Thor always wore his emotions clearly on his face, from joy to fury to grief, and never even considered lying unless it was to hide a weakness, like nervousness, or exaggerate a story, like any good Asgardian-- and even then, he’s not very good at it. There has never been true ill-will in him, just restless anger, an excess of pride, and endless desire for adventure.

Over the course of his exile to Earth without his powers, and in the face of believing himself truly exiled and unforgiven by his father, he learned humility and began to look beyond himself and his own strength. Without the mjolnir to depend on, he had to learn to depend on others and use something more than the direct approach of his hammer to someone’s face to get himself out of trouble. The passion of Jane Foster for her work, the affection of Eric Selvig for Jane Foster, and even the dry wit of Darcy taught him of the worth of people he previously considered mere mortals and worthy only as stepping stones and bargaining chips to returning his power. He came to admire all those traits, and finally saw the humans as people in their own right who he had been discounting. Learning to live among them and care about them, he came to realize the importance of protecting the innocent from “the horrors of war”, what Odin had always wanted to teach him.

That understanding changed him, giving him a new soberness that he’d never had before, and turned his ferocity towards a goal rather than his own selfish desires. It makes him a lot less fun as a warrior’s friend, but it also makes him a little more steady and moved him a step or two closer to potentially being a good king. It gave him the strength of character to sacrifice what he wanted to protect others and prevent the destruction of an entire race.

Despite not being as thrill-seeking as he used to be, he is still charismatic as a leader-- though he does better with a second in command or a single superior to keep him in line. Thor also still tends to act before he thinks, and does not plan ahead well at all. He is still hot-tempered and tends to think with his hammer more than his brain, and he is easily amused and loves battle in general. Intelligence is not his strong suit, for all he knows a lot of big words, and he is more for courage and hasty action meant with the best of intentions rather than measured planning and forethought-- just because he no longer “courts war” doesn’t mean his essential nature has changed at all.

Emotion is still the core Thor runs on, and while guile is still not one of his skills, he can easily be goaded into making mistakes himself out of anger or fear. Optimism is, as always, his first resort when it comes to other people, always he expects the best, always hopes that words and “sentiment” (as his brother calls it) will turn the tide against evil. At least most of the time: when it comes to enemies, he can still be bloodthirsty-- he never did try to talk to chitauri, after all, just his brother who supposedly led them-- and it is entirely possible for him to backslide into arrogance in times of stress.

Really, no one changes overnight, no matter what things one has learned or how hard a lesson finally hit home, and Thor has a millennium and more of careless boyhood behind him that he’s trying to move past. Responsibility does not come easy, and he can go a bit overboard in the process of trying to take it all on. He is, in fact, a little defensive in general, somewhat insecure in his “new” self who is responsible and not reckless, and prone to brooding now that he’s “learned better”. Calling him on his past mistakes or pointing out he’s done something wrong can earn some swift and awkward backpedaling. He’s still learning how to be this new person, and though he sort of misses being carefree, at the same time is a little disgusted by that “boy” he no longer is.

Powers/Abilities:
z Mjolnir: Most of Thor’s magical power stems from Mjolnir, a mystical war hammer that was forced in the heart of a dying star and is one of the relics of Asgard. It serves as a mundane weapon first and foremost, but it is also his means for flight, his focus for calling lightning, and the method for summoning storms, from cyclones to thunderstorms. If anyone but him tries to wield it, it will be terribly heavy and nearly impossible to lift, but he can call it to him wherever it lies, and it will fly to his hand.
z Super: A true “super-hero”, Thor has strength, speed, and endurance far beyond that of a mortal man, in part due to simply being a powerful Asgardian and in part due to intense training of those very aspects of himself. Mjolnir acts as a focus for his strength, but these abilities are not dependent on it in any way.
z Damage Resistance: Thor’s body is resistant to many forms of damage, from strong bones that take a lot to break to skin that is hard to slice or pierce. He is not completely invulnerable-- Loki stabbed him once, and the Hulk succeeded in giving him a nosebleed-- but it’s pretty hard to hurt him.
z Combat: This is Thor’s bread and butter. He is skilled at hand-to-hand combat as well as hand-to-hammer combat, is trained in a variety of weapons despite Mjolnir being his favored one, and has the sharp reflexes of one used to anticipating a foe.
z Ancient: Thor has lived at least a full millennium, quite likely more, and is likely to live even longer than that. Though he is not immortal, he and his people are definitely extremely long-lived. This gives him a lot of experience to draw upon, though quite honestly, most of the time he doesn't think to until after the moment has passed.

Possessions:
z Mjolnir
z Battle armor and cape (chain mail portion can retract when not in battle, or when he wants to show off his arms)
z What else could a storm god need? Nothing!

Arrival:
NOT on the ship! Falling out of the tesseract’s transport. If possible, I’d like to have him fall onto the ship during the excursion, potentially in the middle of a storm? :)

[There’s a smiling face on the network today. It’s not a very happy smile, as if the large blonde man wearing it might be a bit concerned behind it, but it is at the very least a polite and friendly smile.]

Greetings! I appear to have been misplaced. Pray tell, which of the Nine Realms is this? I do not know this place, and I thought I knew all of the Realms along Yggdrasil. Nor have I ever seen a device quite such as this one.

[Though he has apparently figured it out quickly enough. It isn’t even upside-down.]

I would be quite grateful for some aid. I cannot afford to be misplaced for too long. Please reply if you have any knowledge you might share. Many thanks.

[And it cuts off neatly. Yep, the tech must not be that strange.]
